Kyren Wilson Shows Signs of Life in English Open

Kyren Wilson showed signs of life in his difficult season as he eased past Poland's Mateusz Baranowski to reach round two of the English Open in Brentwood. The 34-year-old's poor form continued last week when he suffered a comprehensive defeat to Liam Highfield in the last 32 of the British Open in Cheltenham. But Wilson knuckled down and two consecutive half-centuries saw him safely over the line and into a round two meeting with recent Wuhan Open winner Chang Bingyu. But two-time winner Neil Robertson suffered a shock defeat as he was beaten 4-3 by China’s Luo Zetao, who is ranked a lowly 117 in the world. Other winners on the opening day included Chris Wakelin, who won another final frame decider over Louis Heathcote, and Chinese duo Zhang Anda and Ding Junhui.
